Gas, Diesel Prices Increase

The national average per-gallon prices for gasoline and diesel fuel increased for a third straight week, the Department of Energy reported.

The price of a gallon of gas increased 4.9 cents last week to $2.751 a gallon. Prices had declined 14.3 cents over five weeks, but in these past three weeks those declines have been erased and returned to levels from eight weeks ago.

Diesel’s national average pump price rose, as well, increasing 4.3 cents to $2.904 a gallon, DoE said Monday. The national average price has now risen 14.8 cents in the past three weeks after falling 12.3 cents over the previous five weeks. Diesel topped $3 in the West Coast region, in California, a subset of that region, and in the East Coast’s sub-regions of New England and the Central Atlantic.
